POLITICAL PANEL

The political panel, taking its cue from the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio Forum (September 3-5, 2021), and in preparation for the seventh edition of the ROME MED DIALOGUES 2021 (2-4 December 2021), aims to provide a reference framework in relation to future developments in the nuclear negotiations as well as an analysis of the Iranian position on the regional stage and the role Italy can play in this context.

Particular attention will be paid to the prospects for multilateral diplomatic cooperation on a regional basis in environmental and energy matters. The panel will be opened by the Italian Ambassador in Tehran, Giuseppe Perrone, and will benefit from in-depth interventions by leading representatives of Iranian and Italian think tanks and research institutes specialized in foreign policy.

ECONOMIC PANEL

The economic panel will focus on the global challenges related to the energy transition process, highlighting the role and experience of Italy as G20 Chair towards the COP26 conference taking place in the United Kingdom in November. Finding and developing sustainable energy sources to replace fossil fuels and slow the rapid increase in global temperatures is indeed an imperative for the whole international community, by deploying an inclusive approach involving all the public and private stakeholders so to make sure that none is left behind.

What are the actions that shall be taken to achieve this ambitious goal? Are renewables and alternative sources ready to replace carbon-intensive materials? What are the main socio-economic impacts of this revolution? How is the transition going to be financed and governed by institutions? Enriched with the contributions of representatives of Italian and Iranian companies operating in the field of energy, construction and environmental sustainability, the panel will address these and other environment-related issues, enjoying, among others, the participation of high-level officials from the Iranian Ministry of Energy, the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, ANCE (Italian Association of Construction Contractors) and OICE (Italian Organization of Engineers and Architects).

To further deepen the panel’s key issues, the programme will be integrated by the projection of the session “Governing Energy Transition”, recorded during the last edition of the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio (September 3-5, 2021), including the keynote speech by the Italian Minister for the Ecological Transition, HE Dr. Roberto Cingolani.
